Compressed Air Adsorption Dryer with Carbon Tower
Cold Adsorption Dryer for Compressed Air: Efficient Air Drying for Your Business with DRYBERG® AD/AD-CT
DRYBERG® AD 20 - 110
The small and compact cold adsorption dryer DRYBERG® AD20-110 has been designed and manufactured in Germany to separate water moisture from compressed air when reducing the dew point in the system required up to -40°C up to -70°C.
DRYBERG® AD 150 - 4000
DRYBERG® AD150-4000 is a medium to large adsorption dryer designed for continuous separation of water vapour from compressed air, lowering the pressure dew point to up to -40 °C or even -70 °C.
DRYBERG®️ AD - CT, Adsorption Dryer with Oil-Free System
DRYBERG® AD150-4000CT is a premium cold adsorption dryer with an activated carbon tower as a complete oil-free package, offering class 1.2.0 according to ISO8573-1.
How Does a Compressed Air Adsorption Dryer Work?
The adsorption dryer function is based on the principle of adsorption and regeneration without external heat. Two columns filled with desiccant work alternately. While the first column adsorbs moisture from the compressed air, the second column regenerates the saturated desiccant. This is done using expanded compressed air: a portion of the already dried compressed air is expanded, making it extremely dry and suitable for regenerating the desiccant. This process ensures continuous operation without pressure drop at the outlet.
What Distinguishes a Compressed Air Adsorption Dryer (Cold Adsorption Dryer) from a Heat-Regenerating Adsorption Dryer?
The main difference between a cold adsorption dryer and a heat-regenerating adsorption dryer lies in the desiccant regeneration method. While the cold adsorption dryer regenerates without external heat, the heat-regenerating adsorption dryer uses external heat sources like heaters and blowers. This affects both energy efficiency and compressed air consumption. Cold adsorption dryers are more compact and have lower initial costs, while heat-regenerating dryers are more efficient for high flow rates.
What Makes BERG Compressed Air Adsorption Dryers Special?
Our BERG adsorption dryers for compressed air like the DRYBERG® AD and AD-CT stand out with their compact design and flexibility. They are suitable for various flow rates from 20 Nm³/h to 4000 Nm³/h. The available models are plug-and-play systems that allow for easy installation and maintenance. The DRYBERG® AD-CT additionally features an activated carbon tower, removing oil particles and providing oil-free compressed air according to class 1.2.0 of ISO8573-1. Equipped with pre and post filters and an oil test indicator, our dryers offer maximum air purity. We are happy to advise you on the right adsorption dryer for your application.
What is the Difference to a Compressed Air Refrigeration Dryer?
In addition to the AD and ADP series, BERG also offers a more affordable and energy-efficient alternative with compressed air refrigeration dryers. These are ideal for cost-effective drying solutions with lower demands. They are suitable for many standard applications where increased drying requirements are not necessary.
The technical difference between compressed air refrigeration dryers and compressed air adsorption dryers is that refrigeration dryers dehumidify compressed air by cooling and are the most energy-efficient method of compressed air drying, achieving a pressure dew point of up to +3°C, while adsorption dryers remove moisture through chemical binding to a desiccant, achieving extremely low pressure dew points of up to -70°C.
Please contact us, and we will discuss the right compressed air dryer model for your application!
For Which Applications and Industries are BERG Compressed Air Adsorption Dryers Suitable?
Our compressed air adsorption dryers are ideal for workshops, small to medium-sized businesses, and general industrial applications where dry compressed air is needed but conditions are less extreme. They are also excellent for temporary installations such as construction sites or temporary production facilities. Industries such as the food industry or healthcare benefit particularly from the oil-free compressed air provided by the DRYBERG® AD-CT.
For more extreme conditions or greater demand, we are happy to recommend a heat-regenerating adsorption dryer.
For lower requirements or a smaller budget, compressed air refrigeration dryers are often suitable.
Advantages of Using Compressed Air Adsorption Dryers

Technical Data of the Adsorption Dryer DRYBERG® AD 150 - 4000
The cold adsorption dryer in the AD150-4000 series consists of two columns filled with desiccant beds, a controller with an LCD display, valves, pressure gauges, a support structure, and suitable filter housings with the necessary filter element. Adsorption takes place under pressure in the first column, while the second column regenerates with a portion of the already dried compressed air at ambient pressure. When the first column reaches a certain saturation level, the columns switch, and the adsorption process continues in the second column without a pressure drop at the dryer outlet. Regeneration of the saturated desiccant is possible because a small portion of the already dry compressed air is decompressed and becomes extremely dry upon expansion.
